Dear Brothers,
We’re upping our game…
For those Zeta alums who can remember the Reagan administration, Schwitzer Hall, and watching the Thriller video on MTV, your recollection will also include memories of the Phi Psi house when it was built in 1981, the newest Greek house on campus.
Today, we stand as a testament to our resilience and commitment. We’ve outgrown the ‘new kid on the block’ label – Reagan’s era has passed, MTV has evolved, and Schwitzer Hall is now a memory. Yet, our chapter house still stands, symbolizing our enduring legacy.
It’s been expanded, renovated, and upgraded, but the need still exists to continually attract and mint new Zeta Phi Psi members through improvements to retain relevance and enhance visual appeal.
To support that need, and in anticipation of the all student return, the House Corporation recently embarked on a series of short- and intermediate-term projects to resolve deferred maintenance concerns and address safety issues and other deficiencies.
Safety initiatives include:
- Replacement of the backyard fence
- Upgrading and replacing the key card access system
- Replacing faulty door crash bars and door handles
- Replacing faulty security and fire/smoke detection devices
- Removal of debris
Other initiatives include:
- Engaging a landscaping service to improve curb appeal
- Cleaning leaves and debris from the gutters
- Pruning and removal of trees and overgrowth limbs on the south and west sides of the house
- Removal of the storm-damaged dumpster containment fence in anticipation of its replacement
- Construction of a backyard fire pit and patio area
These actions represent just the infant stages of a strategy to ensure the long-term success of the Zeta Chapter. Additionally, more costly capital concerns always lurk on the horizon (think: new roof, kitchen/food service expansion, carpet and flooring replacement) and will require alumni awareness, engagement, and financial support. You are always welcome to stop by the house to reminisce and enjoy the improvements of the chapter house.
Fraternally,
