A STRONG VOICE FOR NASCAR AND INDIANA ZETA

Bill Weber ’77

Brother Bill Weber ’77, passed away on December 13, 2024. A native of New Jersey, Bill was initiated into Indiana Zeta in 1977 and graduated from Butler University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Radio & TV.

While at Butler, Bill was a dedicated member of the chapter, and all those who knew him enjoyed his light-heartedness and friendship.

After leaving Butler, Bill worked for Indianapolis WISH-TV as a sports reporter. He worked at TNT, NBC, and ESPN, serving as host of NASCAR pre-race shows and reporting from the pits. He eventually assumed lap-by-lap duties in 2004. Some of his most notable races were:

  • Jimmie Johnson’s first Daytona 500 win in 2006.
  • Tony Stewart’s second Cup Series championship in 2005.
  • Joe Nemechek’s final Cup Series victory in 2004.

He officially became the voice of NASCAR on TNT and was on the call for several notable races as the lap-by-lap announcer.

In 2006, Weber appeared as himself in the comedy film “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”.

He worked for NASCAR until 2009.

Bill passed away this past December at the age of 67 and is survived by his wife, Teresa.
